What an exciting and jam-packed year 2017 is turning out to be for all of us at Glendale! We started things off with a bang by hosting our annual braai for all our residents, as well as their families and staff – and, with a turnout of more than 160 people, it really was a special day of celebrating family, fun and delicious food.
Our residents had an absolute blast helping out on the day, with some of them assisting with braai and others helping set up. June Hayman with her group of wonderful singers provided the musical entertainment and the residents loved every minute of it! So much so that many of them (and many guests too) are already asking when the next braai is going to be. But until then, we’d just like to thank everyone who came to celebrate with us. And, of course, we’d also like to thank our generous sponsors – Mannie from Oftaim, Allen at Claremont Kosher, Selwyn from Checkers Sea Point and Yoram of Some Thyme. We couldn’t have had such an amazing day without them!
To celebrate the upcoming festival of Purim, the Herzlia Constantia Grade 2s will be joining some of our residents in the Glendale kitchen to help make hamentashen for our Purim party which will be happening on 12 March. Our residents love baking and interacting with people of all ages – and are so looking forward to this visit! Plus, on the day itself, Gilad Stern will be coming to Glendale to read the Megilla, while our residents show off their costumes, exchange their mishloach manot, and eat their delicious, homemade hamentashen! With Pesach right around the corner, Glendale will be hosting our annual 2nd night seder. It’s an evening all our residents look forward to and, once again, they’ll be taking part in all aspects of the festival – from helping with the cooking and décor, to conducting the seder and searching for the afikoman. This is always a very big event in the Glendale calendar and we’d love to have you join us and our residents as we all celebrate this special Jewish Holiday. Our 2nd night seder will be taking place on Tuesday, 11 April 2017. So if you’d like to join in, please let us know by 31 March.
